Halloween is this Sunday and I'm reminded of how much I loved this holiday as a kid. The trees were displaying their fall best and oftentimes we’d have a few extra days of summerlike weather. It was the start of the holiday season with Thanksgiving and Christmas not far behind. I'd get excited thinking about costumes, decorations and of course trick-or-treat. It was a time when people would tell ghost stories as well, getting us kids all worked up about some abandoned house or old grave in the town cemetery. We had a lot of fun. As I got older I drifted away from much of this as most adults typically do. Then one of my supervisors had an annual Halloween party and it was great! Once again there was that childlike excitement about Halloween. I'd wait anxiously to find out what the theme of the party was going to be and then what was I going to wear. Was I going to be some famous entertainer, historical figure, or some creature? One year we had to come as “our worst nightmare” and I have to say that I learned a lot about people that night. There were prizes and we’d all vie for the much coveted "Edith Head"award. I have to say I really appreciated the opportunity to be a kid again and dress up for Halloween.
I’d like for all of you reading this to share your Halloween memories. So respond with memories of your favorite costume or family tradition? Do you have a ghost story you want to share? I look forward to seeing your stories here.
